As you might already know Snapchat is a great way to interact with your customers and prospects, broadcasting the inner workings of your life or the life of your business.
Snapchat has over 150 million active users who take more than 400 million snaps per day (by june 2016.) It’s a great way to share your knowledge and the small “going-ons” of your day to day life.
Getting new followers on Snapchat is not as easy as on other platforms where you can find people or accounts directly on their discovery features; no, Snapchat is going to take a bit more work on your part.

When you first create your account you are asked to add people from your contacts, but this is not worth much if you don’t have thousands of contacts already and we are left in a bit of a conundrum, wondering exactly how to grow our following.
You can take two recommended and very different approaches to this problem; using third party apps and going old fashion marketing. Let’s check both ways out.
Third party apps for Snapchat
There are quite a few apps you can get that will help you discover other people’s accounts, the one I like is called Ghostcodes. Ghostcodes is a discovery app for Snapchat that sorts it’s users into different categories such as: Travel, Business, Artists, Sports and more.
When you create your Ghostcodes account you are prompted to create your profile, there you can write your own bio and choose your category. This is very important as it’s the only information other users are going to have before they decide to actually go ahead and follow you.
This app features a very unique ranking system, called kudos; everyone is ranked on the platform within their chosen category by the number of kudos (likes) they’ve received. The more kudos you get, the higher you rank and the more likely you’ll get found.
Apart from finding users to follow in the rankings, you can also search users by name or even by interest. The latter opens up a great deal of possibilities for us in the internet marketing world.
There are hundreds of interests registered and you can save and follow the most influential people of a certain niche. You choose your interests when you create the account as well.
Since this app is not owned by Snapchat itself, you have to save the Snapcodes to your mobile device and go to the Snapchat app to add your new followers.
Get Snappers The Old Fashioned Way!
Back in the day, people didn’t have the internet to rely on for their marketing purposes, business owners had to figure out where their market was looking and then jump in front of them with an ad.
So, what can you do to get more followers? Jump in front of them, let people know you are on Snapchat in whatever way possible.
Some things you can try are:
Mention your handle on your about section of other social platforms. Facebook and Twitter are good options. If possible, you can actually link back to your add link on these sections, but beware of the terms of service of each platform. It might be frowned upon by some sites.
You can also use your Snapcode as your profile picture wherever you can. Your profile pic is usually the first thing people see when you post, therefore, broadcasting your Snapcode will most definitely help you increase your following.
Mention your handle on blog posts and at the end of articles you publish. This is a no brainer, instead of just signing your name as many do, add an extra line to your post and ask people to follow, many will, specially if you ask nicely. 🙂
Take advantage of your network, collaborate with other users and have them mention you and your Snapchat handle. This is especially useful if you’re collaborating with someone with a big following.
Create PPC campaigns on Facebook using your Snapchat add link as the target. (https://www.snapchat.com/add/yourusername)
Advertise exclusive Snapchat deals or coupons on other social sites. This approach can be of extreme value, you can promote your Snapchat and generate sales at the same time. Creating deals on Snapchat can cause an immediate sense of urgency because the deal/coupon or promo code is only going to be available for 24 hours, no more and no less. Make sure to mention the time constraint for even better results.
Add your Snapcode onto your business cards and all your stationery. If you are a bit more old school, this approach can work wonders for you. Every time you meet someone, hand them your business card as you normally would and mention your Snapcode. Draw attention to it….
Add your handle to your email signature. Probably one of the most important things you can do. Since you’re probably sending out newsletters or doing some kind of email marketing, just add your handle to your templates and go about business as usual.
If you run a store or any type of venue, you might want to consider making a sign with your Snapcode. If people enjoy your business, it’s very likely they are going to start following you.
Add your Snapcode at the end of your videos if you are doing any kind of video marketing.
ASK. If you have any kind of following, you should just ask people to follow you. They’re already interested in you and your content. If you give them another way they can interact with you, they will undoubtedly, do so.
Snapchat is an amazing way to humanize your brand. Create a loyal following while making a mark with real time marketing and, even though getting followers might not be as straightforward as you might hope, with a bit of work you can really get the traction going.
