I’d say that these days the longer a visitor is on your site (bounce rate) and the amount of time a visitor watches your video (attention rate) are key. Keyword relevance is still important but it’s an industry standard now, we need to keep the visitor on our page as long as possible. To do that, we need to provide a ton a value for whatever niche we are in. But before that, we need to get them to click on our page and this has given rise to click bait:

Your average content creator can start by making sure his/her content has a keyword related title, h2 headers, meta keywords and article. But above all, make sure that you provide real value that your visitor can actually use.
Also you can piggy back on YouTube by turning your content in to a video where you can engage your audience in a whole new way. It’s not difficult, most smartphones have HD cameras and YouTube provides a free video editor and royalty free background music.
Also off page SEO can help tremendously, working with other bloggers and youtubers can get your message across to lots of people in your niche really fast.

Why did you decide to open your shop online?
Well, In the beginning. I first weighed the benefits of on an online shop; low overhead, direct shipping etc… And I knew I could provide quality prints to the baby shower niche.
I also thought If I opened a shop online it needed to be keyword friendly so I bought the domain: baby-shower-decoration-ideas.com (this domain now redirects to printmybabyshower.com)
And it worked! With a little SEO, I rose to the top of google for that term and I got tons of traffic but then new algorithms were implemented by google and my site fell into SEO obscurity. I decided then and there that SEO was important but I need to focus on branding and customer experience before anything else so I moved my site and I created printmybabyshower.com.
How do you manage your online presence and market your goods?
Well I create theme specific prints based on what I read on forums and what google keyword planner tells me.
I give away the decoration portion of the theme and sell the game portion of the theme. I promote my prints on Pinterest and YouTube. I also get a fair bit of traffic from google search.
I also have an email subscriber list. I give them special deals on my prints and other baby shower related goods.
Do you have any tips for a newcomer on how to optimize their online shop?
Yes, apart from the SEO tips I mentioned earlier you should start building an email subscriber list from day one. Provide them with valuable freebies for that niche and build a relationship with them.
