Sweet tap dancing Jesus! I’m tired of all of these SEO phonies preaching about the virtues of free traffic.
Before I get into the SEO tips and keyword research, I’m here to tell you there is no such thing as free traffic because whatever time you spend on SEO to get your keyword ranking is ‘time’ you never get back!
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, your time equals your life; your most valuable resource and the only resource that can never be replenished.
Not only that, your hard work doesn’t guarantee your content will stay on top for your chosen keyword. Google can come out with a new algorithm that will cast your website down to the 40th page of hell!
This is not to say that I don’t practice proper SEO to get my content ranking. I do, and I’m pretty good at it. After all, I got this piece of content in front of your eye balls, haven’t I?
However, I also pay for my traffic but that’s for another post. Today, I’m going to reveal everything with a live case study from one of my niches:
As you can see, there is more to it than meets the eye. It’s not free because you gotta work at it and that requires patience and time.
SEO Marketing & Keyword Research Like a BOSS!
Everything. And I mean everything begins with the Google keyword planner. It’s a free tool that lets you know what people are searching and how many times they are searching for it.
It’s the start point for whatever piece of content you create. Don’t try to reinvent the wheel, just give your visitors what they want and GKP gives you that information. Here are the steps you need to take:
- Just head on over to GKP and type in any word or phrase to find out how many people are searching for it in a month.
- Make sure it has at least 120 searches a month.
- Take that keyword and put it in the search bar with quotes around it, this lets you know your keyword competition.
- Keep your competition under 100,000 results.
- If it meets the above criteria then we have a winner.
- Build out your main content (300 to 2000 word article) and supplemental content for that keyword: videos, pdf, prints etc…
- Post your main content along with your supplemental content on your website.
- Link to your new content on your dedicate social networks for that site: Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Tumblr etc…
Case Study: As some of you know, I’m in the baby shower niche. So I typed ‘Crazy Baby Shower Cakes’ into Google Keyword Planner. At the time of this post that keyword got about 260 searches a month.

I then put quotes around that word and searched it on Google. The competition result number for it was ONLY 65! That was too tempting to let up, I started to create content for it right away.

I started ranking less than a week after I created content for that keyword. As you can see, it’s easy to climb the SERPs if you provide good quality content. Always go the extra mile with supplementary content to make your website stand out.

Visitors First, On Page SEO Second!
Time and time again I’m going to tell you to make content that really goes above and beyond your visitors expectations. This is paramount!
For the purposes of this post I’m going to assume you’ll make great content on a fast site filled with the little extras like YouTube videos, images and PDFs.
Here are the basics you need when writing out your content:
- Always write naturally with an emphasis on helping your visitors
- Link to other posts on your website when its relevant
- Put your keyword in the title
- Put it in the alt text of your main image once
- Tag it with a relative short keyword
- Put it once for every 300 words that you write
- Make sure your supplementary content includes the keyword you’re targeting

You are also going to need a SEO plugin that will help your site and content rank for the keywords you want. They help the Google spiders identify your content as a relevant match for your target word.
There are many great plugins you can use, including WordPress SEO by Yoast and All-In-One SEO pack. Choose one and install it. Here is how you use it:
- Write a custom Title with your keyword – Make sure that it’s different from the title you’re using for your post
- Write a 3 to 4 sentence description with your keyword in it
- Put your target and at least four other related words in the Meta Keyword section – Separate them with commas

That’s it! Your content is now ready to take the search engines by storm! Just make sure that your content is awesome and that it really provides value to your end user.
Some other little take-a-ways…
At first you should be targeting keywords that you can rank for easily to build your traffic out slowly. From time to time however, you should also create content around keywords that might be difficult to rank for.
Your visitors will find the content on your site then they’ll share it on their social channels. This has a snowball effect that will grow your audience by leaps and bounds.
Also link to your new posts and videos on your website’s social channels like Pinterest and Twitter. Your fans and followers will share your content and spread your website’s reputation far and wide.
Google will take notice of this and push your website up to the top! That’s all there is to it. Yes, it’s simple but it’s not easy. You gotta work at being a great content creator. Do this and you will be rewarded for it later down the line.
If you found this info useful then share it and spread the love. Have a nice day!

Enjoyed the article. I will apply it to my business
thank you Gilpin
Sonce GKP does not show the exact number of searches now for a keyword, could you suggest any other tool (free ) which can provide accurate data for search results?
Thanks. Great content!
Hello Skikhar,
On my post about buyer keywords I recommend a tool, it’s a premium tool but you can use it three times a day for free:
