Recently I had the pleasure of interviewing a content marketer on the cutting edge of visual art. Eleanor Bennett is the Content Marketing Executive at Magnafi.

Today, she’s going to share what you need to do to get noticed more online, so that you can garner more traffic and brand recognition.

Ike Paz: Eleanor, you’ve been creating award winning content since the tender age of eleven, Who has influenced you as an artist and how did their influence help you get where you are today?

Eleanor: When I was young there were very few people who were actually within my age group creating content for me to take inspiration from.

I was heavily inspired by Damon Albarn in the scope of someone who was a known polymath. It was a decision I made early on that I never just wanted to be known for a singular genre or talent.

I think for those interested in leadership and business it adds an important air of mystery to try your hand at many seemingly unrelated skill sets.

Ike: What is one characteristic that you believe every content creator should have?

Eleanor: I think a background in a creative field allows you to not just “talk the talk” but actually speak from experience and have a better grasp on what is common sense.

There is often a gap between the people who expect content created for a certain purpose and those who are actually creating that content.

I think being in such a competitive world such as photography really meant that learning how to market myself wasn’t optional. I had to find a niche and I had to properly target that audience with a fully fledged strategy.

Ike: You mentioned several highlights in your profile, what were your top three most gratifying accomplishments?

Eleanor: Winning the Young Environmental Photographer of the Year award at the age of 17 along with fifty other various awards in the arts over the past nine years.

The progress we are making as a team in building authority to the Magnafi site through the use of innovative content onsite.

Most recently, for the Breathe Life campaign (which I am heavily involved with) to bring awareness of how the elderly suffer from the effects of loneliness was shared by AARP, who’s organisation have over 38 million members worldwide.

Ike: How has content marketing and social media marketing impacted your personal brand (Eleanor Leonne Bennett) and the Magnafi site’s brand?

Eleanor: For my own site, a lot of my link building has a lot to do with content marketing. The images build those necessary connections with relative ease.

For Magnafi, as a content marketing agency you have to poise yourself an an authority in your niche. Magnafi’s niche is that we are a film content agency.

It means that the long term view for our blog is to be a perfect fusion of film industry material and digital marketing inspired content.

We aren’t limiting ourselves to any one medium – I’m a massive fan of visual data, guides and getting your content from real world events.

Ike: What advice would you give someone who is starting their own brand as an artist and content creator?

Eleanor: Use your head, when doing gigs make sure that they are worth it.

If someone invites you to guest post on their blog make sure to check their site for spam flags and low domain authority.

There are many occasions when seemingly genuine people have the best intentions but would contribute to the damning of your own site authority by being associated with them.

Ike: Could you provide some actionable tips on getting more coverage and traffic to your content?

Eleanor: Look into social automation tools, trying anything once is better than doing nothing at all.

Don’t be afraid of being cocky when trying to build authority, be brave enough to tell a site that they have broken links – even when they do have a DA in excess of 50+

Look at who covers your competitors and take a leaf out of their book. Going even further to look for the competitors of who gave them coverage if you find your first point of call won’t satisfy you with a response.

Ike: What are you doing to ensure continued growth for magnafi.com?

Eleanor: Strong content strands, regular outreach and an upcoming video auditing tool that we are very excited to launch.

In the mean time we have already produced an infographic to predict the year ahead in digital marketing:

Ike: Is there anything else you think inspiring content creators should know?

Eleanor: Reference, research and research again. Look at proven successes and re-imagine them to attain perfect working concepts of content that is desirable for your audience.

All Content Marketing Should Be a Burden Of Love…

Eleanor teaches us that creativity coupled with thorough research is a powerful combination. She also gave us a glimpse of what’s to come in the content marketing realm.

It’s going to be overwhelming for some, but for others (like Eleanor and myself) it’s an ever-evolving canvas to express ourselves on. Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there through your content and try to surround yourself with like minded folks.

FYI: Besides Magnafi, Eleanor has a ton of cool and artistic content you can check out on her personal blog.
